When did you get into the hobby, and what were some of your first plants?
I first got interested in cacti and succulents during covid, late 2019. The first plants I remember ordering online was a Sinocrassula yunnanensis and a Haworthia cooperi var. obtusa. I couldn’t believe looking at these plants that they were actually real! This started me off.
When did you decide to turn your passion for plants into a business?
Growing up I worked at my dad’s nursery, so it was always in the back of my mind to start a (plant) business.
My brother Oscar, GT Nursery showed me the ropes, and since then we’ve shared a passion for cacti and succulents.
I’d say it happened after my collection table started overfilling a few years into collecting. I had to let go of some plants, so I posted some on my instagram account and had a great response. The rest is history.
What are some of the best parts of being a cacti and succulent grower?
I’d say the best part of growing plants, and what really attracted me to it, was the minimal care requirements for these plants. Now don’t get me wrong. They come with certain problems as well, but staying on top of watering was night and day compared to my tropical plants.
What are some of your current favorites in your own collection?
Some of my favorites are my 31-year-old Euphorbia clavigera, an ugly Turbinicarpus lophophoroides and one of my newest acquisitions, Tephrocactus alexanderi ssp. Fiambalensis.
What are some of your current favorites in your own collection?
Looking into the future I hope I can continue to grow my inventory of unique and hard to find plants, as well as growing many seedlings of all types. My goal is to be one of the biggest growers of these rare and exotic cacti and succulents in Southern California.
